Georgia QSO Party

Get on the air with the Atlanta Radio Club on April 13 for the Georgia QSO Party.

Website: Georgia QSO Party

Location: Lucky Shoals Park, Norcoss, GA

From Bill Perkins:

Well, it is GA QSO Party time again. Keeping with tradition the

Atlanta Radio Club will be having an outing in a public park and all

LxPedition members area are invited to participate. The location

will be Lucky Shoals Park at 4651 Britt Road, Norcross. The park is

just off Jimmy Carter Blvd about two miles east of I-85.

The GQP April 13th - Saturday 2pm till midnight our time (which is

currently 1800Z to 0359Z - if you use Zulu time you lose one minute

of operating time?). We will start setting up at Lucky Shoals Park

around noon. As usual we will be out there till around 11pm then

start packing up.

I am working on getting us a shelter *but* even without we'll have

fold up pavilions under trees for shelter and shade. In the years of

doing this it has never rained on us on GQP Saturday (as opposed to

my history of LxP'g where weather always seems to conspire against

me). Park shelter does provide easy access to AC for those who

are battery challenged. We should have AC on the day but battery

power will be available for those who want it (I prefer it

actually).

Food will be served around 6pm - pizza of several varieties. Be

there by 5pm to get vote for a pizza variety of your choice. Soft

drinks and snacks will be available. If you have any special food

requirements you are on your own.

If you have a radio you want to try out bring it on out and we'll

get it on the air. If you want to come and operate there will be at

least one GOTA (Get On The Air) station there for use and good

operators to help you use it. If you want to come and just hang out

please come by and hang out - everybody is welcome.

One thing I would suggest is NOT bringing your favorite 160M

antenna. one year we had THREE people want to put up 200+ ft

antennas and real estate became an issue. They learned "you don't

need a 200ft antenna to work 20m" - you know who you are.

Bring a folding chair - chairs always seem to run short at these

things.

There you go - spread the word around. These events are great

places for hams new to HF to see how things are done. Also non-hams

to see what we do. And finally just to hang out with some people in

a low-stress non-contesting environment and play radio. And

LxPedition folks to see how simple a temporary station is done,

participation is key, anyone can talk about things they want to do

but LxPedition folks actually do things... that is what makes us

different.
